Fine episode
Despite the changed times when it comes to LGBTQI attitudes, this is still a hilarious episode.
Even if it didn’t, at least we put this matter to bed...that’s what she said! No! Maybe.
Is that what this is about? The extents to which Michael goes to rectify the situation is nothing short of hilarious and perfection. I think the problem with this office is that you are sending mixed signals about my being here.
No.
No.
The only signal that I am sending is gay good!
Watching some of your friends.
This is stupid.
Excuse me.
Don't touch me! We see he's trying to be a better man, to try and win her back.
It's not, like, gay shame festival.
All right, now Oscar's feeling discriminated against by his co-workers, primarily Angela, and that's your fault.
I think Angela might be gay.
Could Oscar and Angela be having a gay affair?
And small!
"I am glad that today spurred social change. I graduated in four years, I never studied once, I was drunk the whole time and I sang in the a cappella group Here Comes Treble.
So, end of day we are going to have a little diversity policy freshener because of some more problems at the Scranton branch.
And I have a list of business start-ups I got from the chamber.
Yes.
I am going to need someone to cold call them.
Oh, I can do that.
Jim's nice enough.
I don't know how well he's fitting in here.
He's always looking at the camera, like this.
What is that?
Dwight stares at Angela for several seconds with a leer.
- Parodied. And Characterization Marches On , as during a season 2 discussion about their worst dates, Oscar speaks about a woman who had researched him thoroughly (unless of course he was either making the story up to keep face, or the story was actually with another man).
- Digging Yourself Deeper: Michael tries to justify his insult, and keeps piling insult on top of insult.
- Dude, Not Funny!: Jim puts Andy's things in Jell-O just like he used to with Dwight, but quickly regrets it when Andy reacts with barely-restrained aggression.
- Dumbass Has a Point: In denying being gay, Michael points out that if he were gay, he would be the most flamboyant Camp Gay imaginable, which, given his Attention Whore tendencies, is hard to argue with.
- Establishing Character Moment: Andy's first few scenes establish many of what will become his longstanding character traits, including his short-fuse temper and his choice of nickname for Jim "Big Tuna".
Andy: I went to Cornell, you ever heard of it?
Given this show's love of melodramatic scenes, it was an unusual zig-zag to not depict this onscreen.
- Oh, Crap!: After pranking Andy, Jim is gleefully smirking...and then Andy kicks a bin across the room while screaming in rage. She's completely crazy.
Steer clear, Big Tuna.
Head for open waters.
Okay.
Okay.
I ate a tuna sandwich on my first day, so Andy started calling me Big Tuna.
I don't think any of them actually know my real name.
Big Tuna is a super ambitious guy, you know, cut your throat to get ahead type of guy.
But, I mean, I'm not threatened by him.
I went to Cornell.
You ever heard of it?And Jim decides to take a promotion at the Stamford office.Michael apologizes to Oscar, after he finds out he's gay, for calling him a homosexual slur--but his apology outs Oscar to the entire office.
When discussing Angela's homophobia, Michael asks who should be the judges and juries of society.
